About
LT Smith was born in Newport News, Virginia and graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He is working on a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering at North Carolina State University. He is currently serving as the third-class midshipmen advisor and naval engineering instructor at the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Unit Penn State.
Career
LT Smith’s most recent assignment was in Norfolk, Virginia, onboard USS HELENA (SSN 725), where he served as Assistant Operations Officer, Assistant Engineer, Chemistry and Radiological Controls Assistant, and Main Propulsion Assistant. He previously attended his submarine and nuclear officer training pipeline at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, Nuclear Power Training Unit Ballston Spa, and Submarine Officer Basic Course.
Awards
LT Smith’s awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (one award) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards).
LT Smith’s is also the instructor for NAVSC 202 – Naval Ships Systems I–Naval Engineering
