About
LT Robert L. Johns III is a native of State College, PA. He attended Penn State University, graduating in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering and a Minor in Spanish. After graduating, LT Johns went to Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI. Upon Commissioning, he attended Basic Division Officer Course and Junior Officer of the Deck Schools in Norfolk, VA.
Career
LT Johns reported aboard USS GRAVELY (DDG 107) in Norfolk, VA in June 2019. During his tour, he successfully completed a 6th Fleet Deployment. His primary duties included Communications Officer and Cryptologic Officer. In July 2022, he reported to Nuclear Power School and shortly thereafter Nuclear Prototype Training in Charleston, SC. In September 2023, he reported to the USS GERALD R. FORD (CVN 78) on her maiden deployment to 6th fleet as well as the start of her second deployment in 2025. His primary duties included Reactor Mechanical Division Officer and upon qualifying Nuclear Engineering Officer in 2025, he joined the Reactor Training Staff. In November 2025, he reported to Pennsylvania State University to be an instructor for Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps unit (NROTC). He serves as a naval science instructor for naval engineering along with the Nuclear Power Officer and Officer Candidate advisor.
